The Steiff Teddy Bear Company was founded by Margarete Steiff, a disabled seamstress from Germany in 1902. She developed the now famous Steiff button in ear in order to stop counterfeiters as teddy bears began to grow in popularity. Margarete Steiff had a motto which is still practiced by Steiff today: "Only the best is good enough for children".
